Initial Blog

Hello and Welcome!

My name is Mike Gibilisco and I am new to this whole blogging game...well sort of. Two things, first my wife has a very active blog where she details her life and the adventures we share together in Omaha, NE which can be viewed at http://www.gibilisco.blogspot.com/ . Secondly, I just finished a fifteen month accelerated bachelor's degree program in Leadership through Bellevue University that was entirely web based. The courses required a lot of online activity in groups, and to be honest, I'm kind of missing the interaction. Someday in the distant future after loans are paid off, I would consider taking the master's program, but not until I screw around for awhile.

To tell you a little about myself, I will start by stating that I am 31 years old and married to the wonderful woman(Michelle) that I spoke about in the prior paragraph. We have been married three years (actually today is our anniversary!) and Michelle is pregnant with our first child, a boy due August 16. Both of us are very excited, afraid, nervous and all those other emotions balled together, but we know that we will make it through if not a bit tired.

It is a must to discuss work, as it is a quintessential part of all of our lives, and mine is no different. Currently, I work at a small locally owned restaurant, where I have been for five years. I wait tables and do some management there. My work history is about as sorted and random as anyone could possibly have. Throughout my life, I have held many jobs and during my adult life I have had a few, as well as aspirations and education for a few others.

When I was twenty-three, I obtained my real estate license and went to work for a small commercial real estate company called The Lund Company here in Omaha, where I worked for about seven years. Through a series of decisions, happenings and changes in my life, I left Lund to finish my education and pursue a new career.

After leaving Lund, I went back to school full time and decided to pursue becoming an Omaha Firefighter. I became an EMT-B and then actually went on to become a paramedic, which was an exciting experience that I will always remember. While I admire OFD very much and would love the opportunity to serve my community, the hiring process sucks! I have been on the list twice and received an interview, with no success. I guess I'm not what they want.

My current adventure other than working at the restaurant is the auto business, or rather the transportation business. My Father and I have been pursuing a Nebraska Dealer's license for about six months now, and are right now at the point where we are ready for the inspection(hooray!). The process has been long, expensive and much more to it than we ever thought, but isn't that the way starting a business always is.

Anyhow, I don't want to detail my life is one night, but I will keep updating the site and keeping everyone that's interested abreast of everything that's going on. Life is pretty exciting right now, and I can't keep it to myself!

Also, as evidenced by the fact that I am pursuing an auto dealer's license, I am a gearhead. I love cars, trucks, bikes, just about anything and everything with a motor(even lawnmowers and snowblowers!).

I'll let this be the end of the intro, and fill in the holes as I go. Thanks for reading!

Mike
